It works much the same as a tourist visa, except that once you find a job, you can convert it to a work permit without having to return home to apply for a new visa.

Furthermore, the German job seeker visa enables you to work up to 10 hours a week on a probationary basis, so you and your employer can determine if you are, indeed, a suitable candidate.

It provides an indirect path if you aim to immigrate to Germany permanently.

• You must have a recognised university degree or vocational training equivalent to similar types of qualifications in Germany.
• You must prove that you have sufficient funds to cover your living costs in Germany for six months through a blocked account or formal declaration by a third party.
• You must have proof of health insurance for your stay that covers the entire Schengen Area and not just Germany. Coverage should be a minimum of €30,000.
