Mauritius is a popular destination for many South Africans, as a vacation destination and lately for emigration. The country offers South Africans permanent residence if they meet requirements, and in the past year we have assisted many families in applying for investment or retirement permits.
Alas, relocation has been delayed for many who reside in South Africa and neighbouring countries. The latest update from Mauritius indicates a further setback but if you are a non-resident South African and vaccinated or from India, France or the UK, then the borders will be opening on the 15 July 2021 and you will be eligible to travel if you follow the guidelines below.
Up to 30th June 2021, any person having resided in South Africa, Brazil, Reunion Island or Mayotte Island, or with a history of travel to/from South Africa, Brazil, Reunion Island or Mayotte Island within the last 15 days, will not be allowed entry or transit in the Republic of Mauritius.
Eligibility for Travel – Important Notice
Travel restrictions following national lockdown in Mauritius:
Up to 30th June 2021, any person having resided in South Africa, Brazil, Reunion Island or Mayotte Island, or with a history of travel to/from South Africa, Brazil, Reunion Island or Mayotte Island within the last 15 days, will not be allowed entry or transit in the Republic of Mauritius.
Travel requirements for passengers travelling to Mauritius
- Passengers travelling to Mauritius will have to fulfil all travel exigencies before their flight.
- All prospective passengers (including children and infants) travelling to Mauritius must possess the following documents:

Passengers travelling from France must have a compelling health, family or economic-related reason for their journey and they must complete a form as prescribed by the French Ministry of Interior which is available here. A check of the supporting documents will be made in France before departure. In the event of a false statement or an invalid reason, boarding will be denied. Please note that this does not apply to passengers in transit at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport.
For passengers arriving from Reunion, only travellers with compelling personal, family, health or professional reasons that cannot be postponed are authorised to travel and must complete the Air Travel Certificate.
For passengers travelling from England, Effective 8th March 2021, all travellers departing from England must complete an official declaration confirming the reason for travelling abroad. Travellers may be required to present this declaration and asked for any evidence to support their reason for travel, at their port of departure.

2. A valid air ticket to Mauritius. It is important that you provide your email address and mobile number for us to communicate with you.
3. A proof of purchase of a travel package including accommodation, on a full board basis, at a designated hotel for a mandatory 14-day in room quarantine.
4. A self-isolation period of seven days following the 14-day hotel accommodation quarantine.
5. Incoming passengers to Mauritius must download and fill their Public Health Covid-19 Passenger Health Self-Declaration Form and Passenger Locator Form which must be handed over to the Ministry of Health and Wellness counters upon their arrival.
