Irish national

To qualify for a dependent or spousal visa, the sponsor (family member or partner) must prove consistent income for the past three years.
Bank statements suffice as proof.

  • Current passport and a full copy of all previous passports
  • A signed application letter
  • Sponsor’s status or eligibility to sponsor
  • Evidence of claimed relationship
  • Finances
  • Evidence of dependency

  • Previous visa refusals

There are additional requirements if you are under the age of 18 and need a dependent visa.
You need a letter of consent from both parents unless one parent has full responsibility.
A court order is necessary if one parent has full responsibility.

How long can you stay in Ireland on an Irish National Family Visa?

  • You’ll get Stamp 4 status when your visa is approved
  • This visa allows you to stay in Ireland on a relative visa for two years
  • You can apply for renewal of the visa when this period is up
  • It’s possible you could use this visa to emigrate permanently to Ireland

EEA or Swiss national

EEA or Swiss national

There are specific relationship requirements to qualify for an EEA or Swiss family visa.

Eligible relationships include:

  • Children under 21 years
  • Spouse’s children under 21 years

How long can you stay in Ireland on an EEA/Swiss national visa?

You can stay in Ireland for up to three months. Subsequently, you must apply for a residence card.

Non-EEA or Swiss national

Non-EEA or Swiss national

You can only join your non-EEA or Swiss national family member if their employment fits into Category A or B.

How long can you stay in Ireland on a non-EEA or Swiss national visa?

You must apply for a long-stay “D” visa, which allows you to stay in Ireland for as long as the visa is valid.

How to Apply for an Ireland Family and Partner Visa

Applications for all family and partner visas are the same.

  1. You must apply online via AVATS (Online Visa/Preclearance Application Facility). It’s necessary to print, sign, and date the application form and submit it along with your supporting documents.
  2. You may need to provide biometrics.
  3. Applications for all visas except the non-EEA or Swiss national visa have a six-month approval time.
  4. The process for non-EEA or Swiss national visas has a 12-month approval time.
